Write a letter to a lonely child...
A message from Joey Ann Payne of Global Aid Network
Each
year Global Aid Network asks families to donate CarePacks of school supplies and
new teddy bears to give to orphans and other needy kids in the Former
Soviet Union--and around the world. A BIG
part of that gift is a letter and photo from the donor. That letter is
so important—it communicates, “You are loved by a real person in the United
States!”
But
each year we get thousands of teddy bears and CarePacks with no letter!
We cannot have some children getting a letter that says, “I love you,” and
other children just getting the gift! Would you consider writing a letter to
one of these kids?
Do:
-
Address the letter to "Dear Friend"
-
Put your address in the letter. Some children want
to write back!
-
Add a photo (good quality if possible). This makes YOU REAL!
-
Talk about your family, pets, hobbies, favorite foods,
school, etc.
-
Talk about your faith in Jesus Christ. This will
help to reinforce our message that God loves them and wants to have a
relationship with them.
-
Staple or tape your photo to the letter.
-
Feel free to send multiples of the same letter!
And some Don'ts:
-
Don't put extra items like stickers, candy, or money in
the letter. These will have to be taken out so all the letters are
the same.
-
Don't talk about material things like your home, car, or
how much money you make.
-
Don't promise you will do anything for them.
This letter from you is often the first thing they open
because they are so excited to hear from YOU! And they will cherish
this letter and read it over and over again. You can be a missionary
from home with a simple letter!
