We were prepared for
long, sterile hallways and children in bed, but though the staff did wear
white coats, there was nothing else to alert us to the fact that we were
visiting hospitals.
It was the same at both medical facilities. The
children were gathered and waiting for us outside, dressed in slippers and
whatever type of clothing they happened to have. The children, who are in
these hospitals for up to ten months, hung on every word we spoke. They
opened up and told about their lives. A girl shared her handwork. They
eagerly accepted our gifts. Little voices repeated the prayer of
salvation after us. Glowing faces attested to new found hope. Children
clung to us and didn’t want to let go…
These children rarely have visitors. They were
lonely and open to the message of Christ’s love which we had for them.
