July 3rd was an all around special day. That Sunday
was a much-needed day of rest. Our sleep-deprived bodies were
allowed a little extra time in bed before church!
Our family was thrilled to go to a Sunday service at Revival Church--
the origami swan shaped building that stands on a hill as a "light" to the
city. This was our first time there for a church service.
There is always something special about worshiping with believers of
another country and language, and that was certainly true on this day. Another thrill was to have a long-time Russian friend join us there.
At last she found a church where she felt comfortable!

Like sardines, the five of us and our interpreter crowded into the back
of a van-- our transportation to Pastor Yuri's home after church. He, his wife,
and their two young children hosted us at Sunday dinner in their home high
atop a Russian apartment building. What a feast we had!
The best part of our visit was not the foods, however. We were
encouraged through our interaction with this young and loving Christian
family. Our afternoon's discussions covered many topics. It
became evident that Yuri is a man of prayer, and much of his ministry
revolves around prayer ministry. The children kept the day light.
Denis was entertained by the gifts we brought. Smart little Milana
jabbered away to us in Russian, taught us new words, and sounded out words
for Hannah to write down in Cyrillic.
The day ended with a relaxing time of fun and games back at the hotel.
Cake and tea were served, compliments of one of the Russian pastor's wives
and our Russian bus coordinator. |
