The church building at Leninsk Kuznetsky has come a long way since we first learned of their need for help,

but many needs still exist.

You will find background below and an update from our 2005 visit on another page.

The Appeal from Leninsk-Kuznetsky Baptist Church

One Lord, one faith, one baptism. (Eph. 4:6)

Appeal to Church ____________

May the peace of our God be with you, dear brothers and sisters.

We apply to you in the name of Jesus. In 1993 our church started building a new Church (Prayer House) in Leninsk-Kuznetsky because the old one is small and dilapidated. Last years the church has lack of building materials, such as: bricks, cement, sand, metal, timber, windows, doors and so on. We planned to finish it with God’s help and the local church resources, but because of the existing economic condition we have to apply to you for help.

Cast thy bread upon waters: for thou shalt find it after many days (Ecclesiastes 11:1)

We need your prayer and financial help.

Praying for you and wish you rich blessings

This formal appeal came to us on June 19, 2003 although our prison friends had written about this matter during the winter months.  With great concern E. wrote, “As for our brothers from Leninsk-Kuznetsky, they have a problem with building their Sunday School (a church building).  All of the brothers from our small community want to ask you to help them.  We, prisoners, can do nothing for them.  We are ashamed to ask for help, but something inside us is challenging us to do it.  I hope, dear brothers and sisters, that nothing upsets you in this letter.  We ask you to help them with the building of the Sunday School.”

Only after visiting the church did we understand more clearly their situation.

Building Project Timeline

  • Before 1993-- Leninsk-Kuznetsky Baptist Church had outgrown its deteriorating church building.

  • 1993-- Communism had fallen.  Life looked good.  A new church building was begun.

  • After 1993-- Economic conditions deteriorated, and the building project could not continue as planned.

  • 200 members of the church moved to Germany.

  • 2003-- In 10 years, only the basement level had been constructed.

  • Summer 2003-- Red brick walls began to rise.  The present building is again overcrowded.

  • Summer 2005--Work in progress.

  • September 2006-- Walls and roof finished!!

  • Winter 2006-- Work continues. . .

It is with great creativity, careful spending, bartering, and also much prayer and reliance on their Heavenly Father that their organized project moves slowly forward.

This is the building that presently houses church services.  Next door is a house that doubles as the Sunday School.

Many of the people of this city of 115,000 people, who make their living by mining coal, wait for the day when they can attend this church.
